Looking over the lecture for week 6 on scenarios, it is to me an important tool for science as it follows in line with the principles of ESD – inter & Intra -generational equity.
I know that personally it is helpful for me to have an almost tangible outlook of the future to understand possible and probable future scenarios in a more realistic light. It also helps to gain an understanding of how and what is being done and how and what can be done.
I am working as a town planner and without the plans for possible structures it is almost impossible to determine effects to the specified area. I see scenarios as similar in that respect in that the ‘general purpose of the analysis is not to predict the most likely future state of the system but to assess the feasibility and desirability of different outcomes’ (Lecture Slide – Lecture 6, IEST5003).
